Day trips in the Dordogne Valley
Natural Marvels
The infamous "Grotte de Villars" caverns "Lascaux
II" near Montignac or the "Font de Gaume" cavern in the Vezere Valley.
The "Gouffre de Proumeysac", the biggest Abyss
in Perigord, full of Stalctites and Stalagmites, or the "Gouffre de Padirac"
with a boat trip on an underground river. Near this Gouffre there is also
the "Grotte de la Cave", where you go several hundred meters into the
mountain by a small train.
Sight-seeing
There are a lot of medival towns in this region
like Sarlat, La Roque Gageac, Domme, Carennac, Rocamadur, Perigueux or
just nearby St. Jean de cole and Brantome.
Visit to the castles of Puyguilhem, Jumilhac
le Grand or the Castle of Hautefort. There are also a lot of Castles near
the Dordogne like Chateau de Beynac, Milandes and Castelnaud
Local Vineyards
On the way to Bordeaux you can find the world
famous town of St. Emilion, well known for its wine growing estates, the
same as the region of Bergerac with the Chateau de Monbazillac.
Local Markets
At Thiviers (8 miles, the "capitol of the
Fois Gras"), there is a well known regional farmers market every saturday,
or at Perigueux every Saturday and Wednesday.
